Overview

The Niagara 4540 Advanced Packet Broker delivers non-blocking 3.2Tb, line-rate traffic aggregation, filtering, and advanced packet processing in a compact 1RU form factor - empowering NetOps and SecOps teams to eliminate blind spots, optimize tool performance, and scale with ease. As part of Niagara Networks’ Advanced Packet Broker family, the 4540 goes beyond traditional aggregation and filtering by providing a programmable, high-performance visibility layer that ensures the right data reaches the right tool at the right time. These packet brokers can be configured to perform active TAP functions as well as fully integrated packet broker functions.

Equipped with the pluggable Packetron acceleration module and enhanced with the award-winning Open Visibility Platform (OVP), the 4540 enables comprehensive packet parsing and manipulation for both IPv4 and IPv6 across OSI Layers 2–7, while also delivering TLS decryption, deep packet inspection, and advanced network intelligence capabilities. Through OVP, the 4540 can also host third-party security and monitoring tools directly on the same platform, reducing footprint while ensuring flexible inline or out-of-band deployments.

The Packetron Acceleration Module is the core enabler of Niagara Networks’ advanced network packet broker solution. It delivers deep packet intelligence - from the network layer up to the application security layer - enabling high-fidelity data manipulation, optimization, and precision traffic delivery to NOC & SOC infrastructures.

With Packetron, NetSecOps teams can confidently deliver the right traffic to the right tool. The Packetron visibility layer empowers advanced packet processing capabilities, including TLS decryption, deduplication, and intelligent header stripping. It supports filtering and parsing across a wide range of encapsulation protocols such as ERSPAN, FabricPath, GENEVE, GRE, NVGRE, VXLAN, VLAN, VN-Tag, PPPoE, GTP, MPLS (GRE, IP, L2, UDP)—and many more.

By streamlining complex packet operations, Packetron enhances NetSecOps workflows and ensures efficient, reliable network visibility.

In today’s digital world, hybrid cloud environments have become the new norm. However, managing network traffic across on-premises, private, and public cloud infrastructures can be complex. This is where a Cloud Packet Broker makes a critical difference- functioning as a virtual Cloud Intelligence Platform (CIP) that aggregates, processes, parses, and filters network packets and metadata from both East-West and North-South traffic flows.

The virtual packet broker can be deployed in any virtualized environment- private or public cloud- and delivers agile packet processing capabilities identical to those of Niagara Networks’ on-premises physical packet brokers.

The CIP enhances hybrid cloud visibility by providing precise packet-level data and actionable insights into network performance, security, and compliance across your entire cloud infrastructure. As a result, cloud operations teams can confidently route the right traffic to the right tool, ensuring compliance and achieving full visibility across the entire cloud infrastructure stack.
